Trifecta: Week Eighty-Three "Rusty"

The news of "Rusty the Panda", who escaped from a D.C. Zoo, first sparked my creative flint. I chose to leave that story in my mind. Here's the one I chose to submit from the three I wrote. Enjoy!

“This model was serious technology in 2055” I told my crew, excited and relieved.

We had been excavating New York City for months and, until now, had come up empty handed. Today, our hands would be full.

We discovered it locked away in a vault at the infamous Gold Line Technologies Center. The android had been shut down for decades and appeared to have been so before the Tsunami came. This luck could result in a full recovery.

“Lift it onto the Magniflyer and prepare it for dehydration” Loren, the lead scientist instructed.

The robot was heavy and it took six of them to lift. They moved it into place and secured it for transport. Throughout the flight to the lab, preliminary tests were administered and circuit boards were freed of debris. We knew this computer was our chance to bring peace to a humanity crumbled, but also realized the trouble it may bring if its programming was pernicious.

We arrived at the lab and quickly moved it into the chamber.

“Operating Systems recovered, sir” Loren told me and we gave each other a nervous smile.

“Take a look at this!” a tech screamed out, red-faced and noticeably frightened.

“It’s moving!” another shrieked, stumbling over himself as he quickly moved away from the dehydration chamber.

The sealed hatch of the enclosure exploded open, knocking several technicians to the floor. Silence filled the room and pandemonium filled our minds as we waited with formidable anticipation for what was to come next.

It blankly stared ahead as it stiffly walked systematically through the door. Its machine-pressed face was hauntingly expressionless and unfamiliar. The moveable facial features were completely still. The eye lids were wide open and the mouth closed and relaxed.

“Sir!” Loren screamed out a whisper. “OS malicious!”

“Shut it down! Do it now!” I demanded.

The crew scrambled to power the robot down.

Suddenly the head moved up and down. Its mouth moved open, smiled and revealed orange rusty teeth. “Impossible” it spoke.

    2. You did properly link and did not need to delete your previous link.
Barbara is referring to the common internet courtesy practice of linking back to the site that hosts the challenge you're participating in or a site that you refer to in your post.
In this case, you would say something like, I'm linking up with Trifecta Week 83 challenge and you would put a hyperlink in the word Trifecta leading back to the post. This is the link for this week's challenge:
