Think Happy

My submission is:


Life is filled with bumps along its path. There are three things you can do to smooth them out. The first, think positively. The second, think positively. And the third, think positively.


I was hoping to produce something with a tad more creativity, but the words just did not come this weekend...Next weekend will be better...why? Well, I'll give you three reasons: first I'm thinking positively, second I'm thinking positively and third, you guessed it, I'm thinking positively!

Trifecta: Week Eighty-Three "Rusty"

The news of "Rusty the Panda", who escaped from a D.C. Zoo, first sparked my creative flint. I chose to leave that story in my mind. Here's the one I chose to submit from the three I wrote. Enjoy!


“This model was serious technology in 2055” I told my crew, excited and relieved.

We had been excavating New York City for months and, until now, had come up empty handed. Today, our hands would be full.

We discovered it locked away in a vault at the infamous Gold Line Technologies Center. The android had been shut down for decades and appeared to have been so before the Tsunami came. This luck could result in a full recovery.

“Lift it onto the Magniflyer and prepare it for dehydration” Loren, the lead scientist instructed.

The robot was heavy and it took six of them to lift. They moved it into place and secured it for transport. Throughout the flight to the lab, preliminary tests were administered and circuit boards were freed of debris. We knew this computer was our chance to bring peace to a humanity crumbled, but also realized the trouble it may bring if its programming was pernicious.

We arrived at the lab and quickly moved it into the chamber.     

“Operating Systems recovered, sir” Loren told me and we gave each other a nervous smile.

“Take a look at this!” a tech screamed out, red-faced and noticeably frightened.

 “It’s moving!” another shrieked, stumbling over himself as he quickly moved away from the dehydration chamber.

The sealed hatch of the enclosure exploded open, knocking several technicians to the floor. Silence filled the room and pandemonium filled our minds as we waited with formidable anticipation for what was to come next.

It blankly stared ahead as it stiffly walked systematically through the door. Its machine-pressed face was hauntingly expressionless and unfamiliar. The moveable facial features were completely still. The eye lids were wide open and the mouth closed and relaxed.

“Sir!” Loren screamed out a whisper. “OS malicious!”

“Shut it down! Do it now!” I demanded.

The crew scrambled to power the robot down.

Suddenly the head moved up and down. Its mouth moved open, smiled and revealed orange rusty teeth. “Impossible” it spoke.

2.  I'm still deciding.
 
3.  I started a "blog" on MySpace back in 2007, ongoingneverendingstory, which was a cleverly creative idea, but I was too into the drug scene back then to keep it going. I joined the Trifecta group and blogspot just today and look forward to clean and sober writing challenges and blog postings.
 
4.  I entered a poem in an online poetry contest earlier this week:
 
Above Beyond
 
Lifted eyes wild and bright
Instantly entranced at such a sight
Through the sky whizzing by
a trail of smoke signals left behind
The earth shakes, rumbles at the core
glittering embers of fireworks grace galore
the sky as never they have before.  
In an instant, the world has changed,
will it ever be the same again?
 
Panic races across the land,
grid-lock and looting and robbing and mayhem,
most will have to now live with no plan at all.
Into the brush to hide and take cover,
some would trek with bare necessities
to unite with a like-minded new humanity.
 
From the few who will survive,
the seed of life will spread and thrive.
Becoming who we never here
on earth  have been able to be.
 
 
 
Knowing what they do,
and how we once did  live
in the society of today our people will never forget.
They will take with great pride 
the teaching of their child,
 how to love not how to hate
cheat or to fight.
 
Thousands of years will pass and be lived
In a wondrous Universe, a multi Verse, at best

the progression of us
and how to find peace,

6.  "You should write your life story" a Facebook posting by an ex-lover.  Until I received that comment, I only ever thought of doing it. I knew I had something to say and his comment put my thoughts into action. I have always enjoyed writing, as did my mother, who has truly inspired me the most.

The stench was too much to bear, like subdued smelling salts and burnt garlic, the place reeked. It was hard to see much of anything from my vantage point, I was up high in the rafters and I could see a faint blue glow down below. The soft, inviting light drew me nearer, like a fluttering moth in the summer sky I found my way to the staircase. Surely there would be a sweeter aroma once I descended.

Upon my arrival to the building’s basement floor, I was met by a man clothed simply with a caveman-type leather loin cloth. It was hard to make out any facial features in the dim light, but he was built, muscular and middle-aged. He handed me a red ticket, the kind you see in a PTA raffle and walked on, never saying a word. I knew this was an underground theme party, but this was getting weird!

Over a loudspeaker came fateful words from a somber voice, “Ok, check your tickets, the next number is 56665, to claim your admittance, report to cage number one”. I flicked my lighter lit to read the tickets number and to my surprise, I carried the winning ticket. I followed the blue light, was this “Cage Number One”? It must be! I walked with apprehensive curiosity, my pulse heightened and my mouth dry.  

I arrived at the blue light and found, to my horror, that it was, indeed, Cage Number One. I approached the entrance to claim the prize, where a beast of a man stood. I stopped dead in my tracks when I noticed that inside the cage there were many surgical tools and a stainless steel table, but it was too late. Around the cage were dark figures wearing lobster-eating bibs, grasping the bars from the outside and frothing at the mouths. I was to be eaten! I was the prize, it was me they wanted, I paid the dues, I was now a member of the club.
